Charity Tournaments

This year Northern Region War Camp will play host to a series of Charity Tournaments that will benefit First Candle (http://firstcandle.org), a secular charity whose mission is to give support and information to those who have experienced a pregnancy or infant loss as well as giving information to promote healthy babies. Go to firstcandle.org for more information.

All participants in these tournaments will be given a two sided "Pink & Blue" Ribbon (image coming soon).

Heavy List -- There will be two tourneys, the first is open to novices with less than two years' experience and the second is open to all. For a $5 donation you can "buy in" to the tournaments; this will also cover your first three fights, with a donation of $1 for each additional fight per person. Anyone can sponsor a fighter or a fight, so come cheer on your favorite fighter. For the novice tourney, the fights will continue until everyone is done, one hour maximum. Experienced fighters are encouraged to provide support and instruction to novice fighters. There will be a short break then the open tourney will begin. Novice points will carry over to the open tournament. The novice with the most wins will walk away with a "war chest" filled with different types of tape for his or her fighting kit. The winner of the open tournament will walk away with a full stave of rattan.

Fencing -- This will be a "flower" charity tournament where each fencer will be given a flower. For each bout, the loser will give his or her flower(s) to the winner, so at the end, the winner will have all the flowers. There is a $5 minimum donation (although we will gratefully accept more) to play. The grand prize winner will receive a great prize (unsure at this time if it will be a sword care kit or a fencing cloak), and the first, second, and third place winners will each receive a scarf.

Archery -- Archery Tournament. Yes, we are...we're calling it the "Golf of Thrones." It's Glenn Linn's archery golf -- that is, shooting at pylons, etc. -- in support of "First Candle," an important charity. It's not a competition, it's a game. To play, each participating archer are strongly encouraged to first make a monetary donation at the archery field and deposit a signed "ticket" into our specially marked container, for a drawing to be held at tourney's end or shortly thereafter. Only one donation will be accepted per archer -- no minimum is required; however, $1 to $5, or higher, is encouraged.
Please note: This is not a "best archer wins" competition. Every archer, regardless of age or skill, who makes a donation and shoots in the tournament has equal chance to win one of these five prizes from our drawing in Glenn Linn's "Golf of Thrones": 1) a leather quiver appropriate for a Norman archer circa 1100-1300 C.E.; 2) one half-dozen self-nock arrows suitable for draw weights up to 25#; 3) one dozen 5/16", 125-grain field points; 4) a set of string silencers; or, 5) a new replacement bow string -- the winning archer may choose its length from our existing stock. In addition, each participating archer will receive a decal (minimum value $1) of "The Archers of the Northern Army."

Thrown Weapons -- This tournament is a "choose your target" tournament. You can choose to shoot at the "easy" target for a $5 donation, the "medium" target for a $3 donation, or the "hard" target for a $1 donation. All throws that land in the 'window' are worth one point. Anyone can also choose to sponsor a thrower. For whatever target chosen, the competitor will get three throws per weapon for each of the three weapons (knives, axes, and spears). The winner will be the one with the most points at the end of the tournament and will win a file set for his or her weapons.
